PRODUCT REVIEW: SAMPLE SOCIETY BY ALLURE SEPTEMBER BOX

Stars: 5/5

Cost: $15 a month

Products:

1. Restorsea Revitalizing Eye Cream Full Size – This was definitely the BEST product in the box! They included a FULL SIZE Revitalizing Eye Cream that retails for $85! This product couldn’t have come in my sample box at a better time. I’ve been working 52-55 hour work weeks for almost 2 months now, so you can imagine my absolute need for this product, especially considering how many Executives I encounter from around the world. This definitely made the month worth every penny and more. I have been using this for about a week now and I definitely look less tired, alert, and ready to conquer the world. You apply this product under your eyes once at night and once in the morning. It slightly stings, so be careful! $85

2. LORAC POREfection Mattifying Face Primer Deluxe Sample –  This was a very tiny sample, I can maybe get a few uses out of it. I don’t use too much foundation or powders on my face, so I don’t benefit from this as much as the next person might. I used it today with my BareMinerals powder foundation and it was meh, I wouldn’t spend the extra money for something I could get at the drugstore for less and it would be the same thing.

3. Alterna Caviar Repair RX Re-Texturizing Protein Cream Deluxe Sample – First of all, I love the smell of this product! It smells citrusy and delicious, definitely refreshing! At first I didn’t think I would have any use for this product, I thought it was for frizzy damaged hair only and acted as a deep conditioner. Any hair type can benefit from this product! It makes your hair silky smooth and soft and gets rid of any frizz and split ends. Use this product 1-3 times weekly to get the best results. I would definitely consider buying the full size of this product!

4. Tarte Brazilliance Maracuja Self Tanning Face Towelettes  – This sample box came with 3 of these self tanning face towelettes. At first I was bummed thinking to myself, “O well that’s a tease!” I had the opportunity to use these over the weekend for a friend’s wedding and WOW! Streak free even tan with very minimal self tanner smell! The box claims that there is zero smell, but ANY self tanner has least a small distinct self tanner smell. I would definitely consider buying a larger box for special events such as a night on the town, weddings, dinner dates etc. $8

5. Givenchy Fragrance Dahlia Divin Fragrance Sample – I’m a huge fan of fragrances, but I’m also pick as hell! At first I really liked this scent, very woodsy with sandalwood and patchouli undertones, still warm and feminine. After a while though the smell sort of turned ‘tart’ I guess you could say. It went from sexy feminine to teeny bopper. I’m not sure what happened! It might just be my natural scent combined with the perfume! Don’t let my judgment stop you though, you’ll have to smell for yourself. $1

Pros: Loved, loved, LOVED the full size eye cream obviously. Sample Society has been doing a great job keeping their buyers happy with a good balance of samples, deluxe samples, and high end full size items. I loved the tanning towelettes too, I will be definitely stocking up on these for future events!

Cons: Only thing I didn’t like was the tiny LORAC primer sample. Even though the Givenchy Dahlia Divin wasn’t my style, I still appreciate trying new scents.

Enjoy!

To all my fellow Subscription Box Bloggers!

If you have not heard of the website: mysubscriptionaddiction.com YOU NEED TO CHECK IT OUT!

This site is the bees knees for those of us who are scoping out potential subscription boxes to buy for review purposes. The subscription boxes range from beauty, clothing, food, fitness, DIY projects, vegan, organic, mens, adult etc. If you’re having a hard time deciding which box you want to purchase next, this site has an extensive list along with plenty of reviews from other subscribers. There are coupon deals and you can create your own wish list to keep your desired boxes organized.

The best part is the Swap page! If you’re unhappy with an item you received in your box, or it’s just not not your thing; you can list your item on the swap page and trade with another swapper. You can customize your profile letting other swappers know what items you’re interested in and you can also do multi-item swaps. Here’s a swap I recently did:

I am subscribed to Fabletics which is an awesome workout clothing site for women. You can subscribe paying $49.99 a month for an entire outfit, the best part is you can skip a month if you like within the first 5 days of the month if you decide you don’t want an outfit. If you don’t skip the month, you will be charged the $49.99 which will be added to your account as store credit if you don’t choose and outfit.

I recently ordered a couple items, a few of which didn’t fit the way I wanted them to. The Adventura Camo tank listed above was a little too large for my taste, so I posted it on the swap page of mysubscriptionaddiction.com. Another swapper liked my item, so they sent me a request to swap with them. Once I receive a request to swap with someone, I go to their profile with all their available items listed and choose what I would like. I chose the leopard print scarf listed above. Once I choose what I would like, the swap proposal is sent back to the other person and they either accept or decline. In my case, the swapper accepted, so we had a trade! We’re both responsible for shipping costs of the item we send to the other person. After we exchange shipping information and send our items to each other, there is a section where we can update the tracking number so we can track our packages.

The swapper I exchanged with already received her item from me and left me great feedback. I should be receiving my new scarf in the mail on Tuesday!

It’s a really awesome site! I’ve already done 3 swaps. So far I’ve noticed that a lot of people are interested in my Fabletics items. I’ve swapped a sports bra that was too small, this tank top that was too large, and a switch back tee that I didn’t like the fit.

Anyways my fellow Subscription Box Bloggers, you should definitely check out this site! It’s really awesome and full of great boxes and items to be swapped for! Enjoy!

Product Review: Sample Society by Allure August Box

beautybox2

Stars: 4/5

Cost: $15 a month

Products:

1. Oribe Surfcomber Mouse 2.5oz – I was the most excited for this product when I saw I would be receiving this in my August Sample box! I’m a HUGE fan or Oribe products. I love the quality, the smell, and how long the products last. When I did a little more research on the product, I was kind of skeptical since I originally thought it was a texturizing spray, turns out it’s a mousse. I don’t usually use mousse in my hair when I’m rockin’ the short hair doo. However, I was extremely impressed with how far one dollop goes, and how much volume, texture, and hold it had. Oribe, you’ve done it again! I would definitely buy the full size of this product in the future. A 5.3oz full size of this product costs $37.

2. Too Faced Melted Liquefied Lipstick Peony – I’ve recently become interested in this girly thing called lipstick and lip gloss. I have tried a couple lipsticks from Smashbox and Marc Jacobs, and the lip gloss I use is NYX. This Liquefied Lipstick is amazing! Although I’m not a huge fan of the bright pink I received, I think it’s genius to have a lipstick that goes on like a lip gloss, but has the matte finish and durability of lipstick. A full size of this product costs $21.

3. Ciate Cha Cha Cha Mini Paint Pot – I haven’t actually tried this nail polish yet, but I think the vibrant color is great for Summer. This would have been a great sample to receive in June or July, but it tends to get a little colder in preparation for Fall in August. Even though I haven’t tried this polish yet, I probably wouldn’t buy it since I rarely do my nails. On the rare occasions I do my nails, I will be faithfully choosing Sally Hansen’s new Miracle Gel polish. Great colors, shine, and lasting durability 🙂 A full size of this product costs $8.

4. Jane Iredale Longest Lash Mascara – You want the honest truth? I really hate ANY mascara samples. I am true to only one mascara, and although it might not be the priciest thing on the shelf, it gives amazing volume and length. I am an avid user of Covergirl. However, this sample great for a compact emergency backup for my purse, gym bag, or travel. A full size of this product costs $33.

5. Kate Somerville Dilo Oil – When I saw I would be receiving an itty bitty sample of this dry oil I was pretty bummed out. I have naturally oily skin anyhow so I didn’t think I would use it, plus it seemed like such a small sample I would hardly have enough uses to see a difference. I decided to try it anyways, and man oh, man! Just one use I saw a huge difference in my skin’s overall tone and softness! A little goes a loooong way too. You use only 2-4 small fingertip dots on your cheek bones, forehead, and chin. I really am in love with it, this product definitely ties for ‘favorite’ with the Oribe Surfcomber Mousse! A 1oz full size product costs $65.

Pros: This was my first box from my Sample Society monthly subscription and I was thoroughly impressed! They could have ditched the nail polish and mascara, but my absolute love for the Oribe Surfcomber Mousse and Kate Somerville Dilo Oil make up for it. I would definitely buy the full size of the Oribe but the Kate Somerville Dilo Oil is a tad bit too steep in price for me. Who knows! Maybe the sample will continue to do wonders for me and I’ll cave in and buy it!

Cons: The mascara was my least favorite product, but I’m VERY picky with my mascara, so don’t base any opinions off my bias!

Enjoy!

Thoughts…….

My blog hasn’t really been structured lately, in fact, I don’t believe my blog ever had structure! I just sorta’ post when I feel like it, or sometimes I’ll post when I realize my page views are dropping and I have been doing a shitty job keeping my readers engaged. Some times it’s hard to have really great content ‘come to you’. So here’s a hodge-podge of random thoughts for your reading pleasure….

I recently added a few new categories to my blog. I’ve expanded my product review labels since I recently joined Influenster, Sample Society by Allure, Fabletics athletic apparel by Kate Hudson, and I’m a sponsored athlete with Femme. Now I’m just sittin’ pretty until my goodies arrive in the mail so I can tell you how awesome or not awesome they are!

In the mean time, I’ve been creating goals for myself with the new school year fast approaching. This will be my first time back at college in 5 years! It’s a pretty monumental moment for me! I will be working overtime at my job with a full course schedule. I’ve never actually done that before! It will be hard to sacrifice some workout time for school, but I won’t give up one or the other, I WILL find a balance! tina2

My typical goal is to visit the gym 5 times a week, working out anywhere between an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and 45 minutes.

While I’m enrolled in school I’ve set my goal for at least 4 times a week, working out the same amount of time, but working out SMARTER. I will be incorporating more HIIT treadmill sprints and incline sprints with plyo sets in between. I easily torched about 750-800 calories in a short amount of time during my competition prep with this style workout. Currently I am lucky if I burn up to 600 calories with my lifting schedule. Both types of workouts have their benefits, I personally benefit more from cardio and plyo workouts, especially when I have limited time. I will still incorporate two lifting days, mostly leg days, but if my arms are feeling skimpy I’ll do some upper body as well. I usually workout upper body 2-4 times a month! Not often!

I’ve also adjusted my macros so I will be eating less carbs. Not much less, but I definitely feel like I didn’t need 186 grams per day! We’ll see how my body reacts.

If I become too overwhelmed with the schedule and can’t fit my workout in after work, I can also run to work in the mornings while good weather lasts. My work has a shower, all I have to do is bring a small shower basket with hair products and small make up bag to keep in my locker. Voila! Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

This will be my work and school schedule beginning Monday, September 22nd:

Monday and Wednesday:
-Work:    6:00am to 4:30pm
-School: 5:20pm to 7:40pm

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday:
-Work:    6:00am to 2:30pm
-School: No classes! Workout and HW

I’m secretly really excited for school 🙂 Am I terrified because it’s been 5 years?! Absolutely! I really need the distraction from work, I need to feel like I’m working on something to achieve a purpose for MY future. I love the convenience my job; the hours, the pay, benefits, and the pace; but I know that there is something else for me on the horizon.

Is it weird that this almost feels like farewell?! I’m about to be insanely busy, I really hope I can cope with the jam packed schedule. My future blog posts might be few and far between, and when I do post they may be rushed and just a brief update. To be honest, I might migrate back over to the old school pen and notebook journal. Something about physically writing with pen and paper soothes me. I will write as often as I can, until next time……
